I just passed through the beginning of the second part. In the second part, Alvin is not quite the main character. Clay, an ur-human, losts her whole people because of the lightning attack by the mad mind. Well they assum it is the mad mind. Alvin and other people in the future look a little different from us. We are more like ur-humans. Alvin found the DNA form of the earlier humans after the earth's salvation. As the one last ur-human in the planet, Clay get the full protection of the citizens in Lys and Diaspar. But she feels lonely and unexcepted. Even I would feel very lonely in the same situation. Beloning in a group really gives you a relief and a place to rest your heart. I think she would take the risk and run away to find out if she really is the only ur-human left in earth.

:)
Hello! :) this is the second post about my science fiction book, Beyond the fall of Night by Arthur C.Clarke and Gregory Benford.
Many years have passed after Alvin discovers the spaceship. People finally solve the mystery from the past- the mystery of how humanity was destroyed. There was no such thing as invaders. The truth was that humans invented pure mentality, but the experiment went wrong and the pure mentality distracted people to destroy each other.
Alvin and the citizens of Diaspar and Lys rose up once again to salvage the earth.
Even though the land was still covered thickly with sand, they rebuilt many of the lost cities.
My favorite character so far is Alvin. He is the brave one, who tries to save our planet. Also he lives forever! He would still be a boy even after centuries and centuries pass.
I think the Mad Mentality would soon come back because no prison lasts forever. Then people would have to fight it just like their ancestors did.
I seriously think that if we don't start saving energy and preserving our planet, the ocean could turn into a sea of sand.
